Bible Story: God Makes Abraham’s Faith Grow

This is a tough story for adults and little ones.

Here our loving God required Abraham to sacrifice his son.

In other parts of scripture God tells how he detests the offering of human sacrifices.

We can be assured that God was in charge and knew exactly what he would do.

He used this test of faith to train Abraham and show him how important it is to love God most of all.

God did not allow Abraham to kill his son, but provided a ram as a substitute.

God also provided the perfect substitute for us when he offered his Son in our place.

Jesus died to suffer the punishment we deserve because of our sins.

God is loving, and does everything with our eternal good in mind.

Even when he lets troubles come our way, he does so to lead us to him and his Word, the source of our strength.

Bible Story: God Answers Abraham’s Prayer for a Son

The impossible dream: an old couple, far too old to start a family,

yet promised a son by God.

God had even picked the name-Isaac, which means “laughter”.

At first Sarah (Abraham’s wife) laughed in weakness because she felt it was impossible for her to bear a child.

Later she could laugh with joy when that promised child was in her arms.

God tells us very simply, “Ask and it will be given to you.”

Sometimes his “it” will be different from our “it”.

But we can trust that God will do what is best.

Sometimes we will have to wait for “it.” as did Abraham and Sarah.

But God will help us in his own way, at his own time.

Memory Treasure: Matthew 7:7

Ask and it will be given to you.

Bible Story: God Speaks, Abraham Listens

God’s world began to fill with more and more people who needed a Savior from Sin.

God knew in which land he wanted the Savior to be born, He had it all planned.

God came to a man named Abraham, and told him to leave the land where he was living,

leave the people he knew and go to a new land, God would show him the way.

God also gave Abraham some beautiful promises:

“I will give you a big family”,

“I will bless you”,

“I will make your name great”,

“The Savior of the world will come from your family!”

Abraham listened, he took his wife, Sarah, his nephew, Lot and all his workers.

He trusted that God would lead them to their new home.

And He did!  Abraham was lead to the land of Canaan.

God promised Abraham that all that land would someday be his,

Abraham trusted in God’s promises!

Memory Treasure: Psalm 145:13

The Lord is faithful to all His promises.
